Pure, the Mennonite mob drama that aired on CBC from January to February 2017, makes its US cable debut January 23, 2019 on WGN America at 10:00 PM ET/9:00 PM CT. For Canada, this means a two-year wait between seasons – Super Channel Fuse is the first window for Pure’s second season in Canada, with CBC retaining its association with the series. CBC initially cancelled the series after its first season before the Super Channel/WGN America pick-up. Pure’s US streaming rights are with Hulu.
WGN America frequently dips into the Canadian television well, having previously aired Shoot the Messenger (CBC, 2016) and Bellevue (CBC, 2017). WGN America most recently aired Carter (Bravo/CTV, 2018- ), though a second-season renewal for that series hasn’t yet been decided on. With Pure and The Disappearance (CTV, 2017) debuting on the channel in 2019 – The Disappearance was originally slated for July 2018, then postponed – WGN America maintains a strong recent association with Canadian television.
As previously mentioned on Gloryosky, Mystery Science Theater 3000: The Gauntlet streams on Netflix November 22, 2018. The video isn’t here for any reason other than to follow up on an earlier post, yet it’s nice to see MST3K return to the Ator well with the original Ator: The Fighting Eagle, and Mac and Me is the branded-content scab MST3K has yet to pick. MST3K: The Gauntlet’s other riffed films include Atlantic Rim, The Day Time Ended, Killer Fish, and Lords of the Deep. Any MST3K season that explores Roger Corman and Charles Band territory is of at least nominal interest to Gloryosky.
Yeah, the season’s short. At least the season’s length isn’t tied to Gramercy Pictures this time.
