Trailer | MADtv (The CW)

It may be a “wacky” twenty-second trailer, yet this is the first official YouTube promotion of The CW’s MADtv revival. MADtv debuts on The CW June 26, 2016 at 9:00 PM ET/PT (8:00 PM CT).

The original MADtv aired on Fox from 1995 to 2009, an unofficial revamp of John Leguizamo vehicle House of Buggin’ (MADtv essentially inherited HoB’s creative team and David Herman). The original show competed against Saturday Night Live for fourteen seasons. Thanks to CW Seed obtaining streaming rights to MADtv’s back catalogue, and a reunion special that did reasonably well for The CW, MADtv is back with David E. Salzman as executive producer/showrunner.

Gloryosky is worried about The CW ramping up promotion of MADtv nineteen days before its revival. At the same time – and due to MAD being a Time Warner property – The CW at least thinks enough of MADtv to give it a fifteenth season. MADtv’s tenure on Fox was such that it and Talkshow with Spike Feresten swapped timeslots at one point. Hopefully, The CW treats MADtv at least as well as Whose Line Is It Anyway?

MADtv’s fifteenth season almost came out of left field, so Gloryosky won’t judge the revival until it has a chance to prove itself. Tuesday is a weird day to place the show, yet The CW doesn’t do Saturday late night. Even if this is a trial run, Salzman made good on a promise to bring back MADtv, so there’s that sewn up.
