Tinman Creative Studios’ Super Science Friends is essentially League of Extraordinary Gentlemen, if Alan Moore would cut the fictional-characters shit and give real-world scientists their due (I’m aware “science hero” is Moore’s coined term; shut up). As of this writing, Super Science Friends is at CAD$26,068 of a CAD$25,000 Kickstarter goal, with three days to reach a CAD$30,000 stretch goal. Canadian Animation Resources’ Mike Valiquette has mentioned the project a few times, including the news that 102.1 The Edge/Teletoon personality Fearless Fred Kennedy will play young Albert Einstein.

I wish I had mentioned this Kickstarter before now, as the project will be funded Wednesday, December 3, 2014, at 12:51 PM ET. It is a solid concept, and namedrops Clone High in its FAQ. Suffice it to say, there’s a concerted effort to be historically accurate while the heroes battle villains using awesome zap pow. The CAD$30,000 stretch goal is for a GIF comic where Ada Lovelace and her team of hackers battle the Turing-complete Z3 computer. It’s that type of project, not that it’s blinding you with…you know.

Followers of Gloryosky from long ago will remember an interview I did with writer Matt Watts. He and director Vivieno Caldinelli want to make a viable short-film version of Portal to Hell!!! The stated objective is to give “Rowdy” Roddy Piper another film in the vein of John Carpenter’s They Live – kick ass, chew bubblegum, fight Cthulhu, maintain an apartment building, that sort of business. TwitchFilm.com’s Todd Brown and Aircraft Pictures’ Andrew Rosen (Todd and the Book of Pure Evil) are executive producers. This short film is the proof of concept for a proposed Portal to Hell!!! feature film.

In three days, CAD$3,725 has been raised of a CAD$21,000 goal. The Portal to Hell!!! short film is backed by the Harold Greenberg Fund’s Shorts to Features program, to the tune of CAD$32,000; the Indiegogo campaign is to increase the location, stunts, and special effects budgets.
