Online Promotion | Between 2.5, MADtv (The CW) 15.1

The CW posted a commercial for MADtv’s fifteenth-season premiere on July 21, 2016, and a show sketch on July 25, 2016. The CW is smart in having Whose Line Is It Anyway? as MADtv’s lead-in, though the MADtv sketch as posted has guest star Nicole Sullivan stand to the side and do almost nothing.

Gloryosky understands the excerpt’s intent is to feature the new castmembers, and that MADtv 2016 can’t be a nostalgia run for the old version. That’s what CW Seed is for. MADtv sees a few of its alumni – including Sullivan – return as special guests, so the show accepts its past. At least there’s some promotion for MADtv’s fifteenth-season premiere, rushed as it is.

Time will tell if new MADtv is more than an attempt to cash in on an established brand name. Certainly, posting a new sketch a day before the premiere date isn’t good promotion, even if it cashes in on the Democratic National Convention. MADtv’s fifteenth season premieres July 26, 2016 at 9:00 PM ET/PT (8:00 PM CT) on The CW.

City posted a trailer for Between episode 2.5 (“Horatio Rising”) on July 21, 2016. While Gloryosky posts to the City Between playlist instead of the actual trailer, there is a lot of behind-the-scenes stuff in the playlist.

Between improves in its second season. That doesn’t say much as Gloryosky thinks Between’s first season is awful, yet the show benefits from a clearer purpose – i.e., Between focuses largely on the government conspiracy in its second season – and better overall pacing.

Whether Between performs well enough for City and Netflix to give the show a third season is to be determined. The bad critical karma of that first season could be enough to bite Between in the ass, as Between’s second season has few sites covering it. Even the Between Reddit posters vacillate between “the second season is actually good” and “great for hate-watching”. Between airs Thursdays at 8:00 PM ET/PT on City, while the second season first appears August 12, 2016 on shomi.
