Trailer | Doctor Who: “The Husbands of River Song”

This is cutting it close to its first run in Canada, but without SPACE to create its own YouTube video for Doctor Who, this is just a friendly reminder of the latest Who Christmas special, “The Husbands of River Song” (SPACE: December 25, 9:00 PM ET/6:00 PM PT). After a season based around the themes of mortality and legacy, with Peter Capaldi cementing his reputation as one of The Doctor’s best incarnations, here’s a Christmas special on a remote human colony with River Song (Alex Kingston) and a robot with an amazing screw-on head – also, Matt Lucas.

A video below the trailer serves as sort of a highlight reel of Doctor Who’s previous Christmas specials. It’s hard to believe these Christmas specials are so integral to Who’s legacy, as they’ve only been prominent in the new version of the show. The Doctor Who Christmas specials are either an indictment of Russell T. Davies and Steven Moffat’s excesses on the property, or a well-anticipated holiday tradition (or both – Doctor Who is flexible).

With the tenth season of new Who forthcoming, Peter Capaldi stays on for at least one more year, although the tenth season will likely straddle 2016 and 2017 due to Moffat’s commitments on Sherlock. Gloryosky can wait, just so long as Moffat doesn’t kill the moon too much next season, as is his wont.
